Improving your home

Most improvements are possible. We check them for legal, structural and safety reasons, and for the effect on your neighbours.

• Ask us before you start. Always, even for something small.
• What you are allowed to change depends on your tenancy, so read your agreement or ask us.
• We check whether the work affects the structure of the building or raises a safety concern.
• We check the effect on neighbours. Swapping carpet for a hard floor, for example, can carry noise into the flat below.
• Anything involving electrics or plumbing, such as fitting an electric shower, has to be done by a certified contractor once we have given permission.
• We would not normally agree to improvements while there is a serious unresolved issue with your tenancy.
